Lykke Li
»Breaking It Up«
Haldern Pop Festival 2008

The 21 year old Swedish girl is a cooler, Scandinavian Lilly Allen or, for the older generation, Jane Birkin. Her nicely off-kilter, undercooled soul blends with decidedly sexy straight-ahead electrobeat. She sings her as yet relatively small repertoire with a changing cast of musicians. The sweet and lovely 'Little Bit' was a bona fide hit single in numerous guises and remixes.
Grasping her lyrics is quite a challenge:
“And for you I keep my legs apart
/ and forget about my
tainted heart ...
/ I will do it, push the
button, pull
the trigger,
climb a mountain, jump off a cliff ‚cause you‘re my baby / I love you love you a little bit.”
Yeah, just a little bit. If that isn't romantic, what is? But seriously, this mixture of honeyed pop and obsessive lyrical realism can be exquisitely observed in the streets of Stockholm video.
To take an aesthetically necessary step backwards, the bubblegum live version of teenage alienation 'Everybody But Me' comes in handy.

The album was released in the Republic of Ireland on 6 June 2008 and 9 June in the UK. The album was inspired by a previous relationship of three years .

She had some success with the EP "Little Bit" in 2007. Stereogum named her an artist to watch in October 2007 and described her music as a mix of soul, electro and "powdered-sugar pop".

She has appeared on Swedish musician Kleerup's self titled album, contributing vocals to the track "Until We Bleed". She also worked with Röyksopp on their album Junior, contributing vocals to "Miss It So Much".

According to her Myspace Blog, she has started writing material for her second album but insists it will be a long wait until it is finished for fans to hear.
